I guess you can guess by the title of this blog that my heating bill’s email caught my attention. The way our heating bill is rising, we might have to burn the furniture for heat soon. Okay, of course, that is an exaggeration. I have to say I enjoy central heating and certainly wouldn’t want to rely on a fireplace to keep me warm all winter. There is a cost to all these modern conveniences. And, I guess my gas company knows that I’m griping and complaining because they send over ways to “help stretch [my] energy dollars.” That is very considerate of them!

Here are the suggestions:

  • Clean or replace your natural gas furnace filter every three months.
  • Open your drapes during the day and close them at night.
  • Take steps to reduce your hot water use, such as taking shorter showers, using the cold water setting to get your laundry clean, and running the dishwasher only when it is full.

Reduce the temperature in your home by 3 degrees overnight or while you are away.

If we want to save money, we’ll have to make a few changes. It’s not a bad idea to put on your fleece top and your warm and fuzzy slippers. You might also want to grab an extra blanket.
